Is the iPhone XS waterproof? Here’s the truth!<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

You’re thinking about buying the iPhone XS, but first you want to know if it’s water resistant. IPhones and water resistance can get a little complicated, but I’ll help you clear it up. In this article, I’ll answer the question on your mind: is the iPhone XS water resistant or waterproof ?<\/p>\n

Is the iPhone XS waterproof?<\/span><\/h2>\n

With an IP rating of IP68, the iPhone XS is designed to be water resistant when submerged no more than 2 meters (approximately 6 feet) in water for 30 minutes or less. However, Apple does not guarantee that the iPhone XS will survive in water, which is why AppleCare+ does not cover liquid damage.<\/p>\n

All of this is also true for the iPhone XS Max, the larger version of this iPhone.<\/p>\n

If you’re taking your iPhone XS to the pool or beach, we recommend that you keep it protected in a waterproof case . These Lifeproof cases can withstand drops from over 6.5 feet and are resistant to snow, ice, dirt and just about everything else.<\/p>\n

Since you won’t be able to repair or replace your water-damaged iPhone XS with your AppleCare+ plan, we strongly recommend that you don’t drop your new iPhone in water to impress all your friends.<\/p>\n

What does IP68 really mean?<\/span><\/h3>\n

IP stands for ingress protection and these ratings can be a bit technical. The first digit of the rating indicates the dust resistance of a device. 6 is the highest rating a device can receive for dust resistance and means that your device is fully protected when it comes into contact with dust.<\/p>\n

The second digit in the IP rating indicates how water resistant a device is. 8 is the highest possible rating a device can receive for water resistance, but that doesn’t mean your iPhone XS is completely waterproof! As I mentioned above, Apple will not cover the cost of a repair for liquid damage, so be careful when using your iPhone XS near water.<\/p>\n

The iPhone XS is the first iPhone to receive an IP68 rating! Previous water-resistant iPhones, such as the iPhone X, received IP67 ratings.<\/p>\n

Benefits of IP68 water resistance.<\/span><\/h3>\n

While the iPhone XS won’t be completely safe in water, this water resistance does have some benefits:<\/p>\n
